 Youth Guide

The Popcorn Sale provides Scouts an opportunity to develop salesmanship skills. Cub Scouts and Webelos build self-confidence, Boy Scouts may work toward the Salesmanship merit badge, and all Scouts learn goal-setting and the importance of follow-through.

Order forms will be sent to each Scout on 8/5.

The Pine Tree Council's Popcorn Salesperson Guide provides guidance on effective popcorn sales practices. The 2016 edition of this guide will be placed here in late June.

Looking to sell popcorn but your Unit doesn't plan to? Contact the Council's Professional Team for assistance.

Information on the online sale will be placed here as the sale approaches.

 Distribution

Distribution is coordinated by the Unit Popcorn Kernel. If you are a Scout, please contact your Unit's Popcorn Kernel. Looking to sell popcorn but your Unit doesn't plan to? Contact the Council's Professional Team for assistance.

Popcorn for the Unit is picked and staged at the District's distribution location for pickup. If you wish to change your delivery location, notify Ken Sparta ([email protected]) and Ken will reply with confirmation.

Popcorn is large. Make sure you have enough volunteers and vehicles to help pick-up the product.

Popcorn pickup date and location is District-specific. Show-N-Sell distribution is in mid-September. Take Order distribution is in mid-November.

See the Kernel guide for guidance on storage, inventory, and order filling.

 Printables

IN LATE JUNE, we'll be making a few size-optimized printables available this year so you can make exactly the number of printed copies you need:

  1. 2016guide.pdf is the key dates, contact information, prize and product detail from this website. 2 page sides, which we encourage you to print double-sided on one piece of paper.
  2. youthguide.pdf contains the best tips we have to offer on how a Scout can be an effective salesperson. A double-sided one-pager.
  3. kernelguide.pdf is the info the Unit Popcorn Kernel needs, distilling years of Kerneling experience in to a document you may choose to print or view online.

Printables will be available in late June.

Why the move from having just one paper-only popcorn guide? The Pine Tree Council has launched popcorn.pinetreebsa.org as the primary home for information about the popcorn sale for three key reasons:

  • To Save Paper and Ink -- the old guide was 10 printed pages, and copies were made for every unit. "Reduce" is the first step, before "reuse" and "recycle"!
  • For Easier Access -- contact information, dates and other information about the sale is now easily accessible at home, work and while Scouting in the field. The popcorn site is mobile-ready and works great on your desktop, tablet and phone.
  • To Enable Faster Updates -- if questions arise, plans change, or we hear about a better way to sell, we can make those changes on-the-fly before next year's sale. We'll announce any important changes via Pine Spills and do our best to notify Kernels.
